Dr. John McCarville Receives St. Luke’s Award

Dr. John McCarville, a local physician with Marshalltown OB/GYN, and a medical staff member at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center, was recently honored with the hospital's St. Luke's Physician Recognition Award.  Dr. McCarville was honored on March 30th, National Doctors Day.


Established by the MMSC’s Administrative Team, the award honors physicians who best exemplify the values of compassion, respect, excellence, stewardship and community service. 


The MMSC employees who nominated Dr. McCarville agree on his contributions to the medical community  by providing excellent medical care, communication with patients and their families, consultations with fellow physicians and staff, and for the compassionate care he provides to all.


Marcia Rose, MMSC’s Quality Executive stated, "St. Luke is the Patron Saint of Physicians and Surgeons.  His writings indicate that he possessed qualities of forgiveness and mercy, that he respected women, cared for the poor, and was dedicated to his friends and profession.  Dr. McCarville exemplifies all of those qualities and much more.  He is very deserving of this award.”


Dr. McCarville is also a member of the MMSC Board of Trustees.


Other physicians nominated by MMSC employees were:  Dr. Milt VanGundy, Dr. Larry Beaty, Dr. Ken Lyons, Dr. Ron Terrill and Dr. Gary Peasley.
